Monk takes Leeds to Molineux still smarting from draw against Wigan

Championship: Wolves v Leeds

By Dom Brown

Leeds United will be looking to return to winning form after conceding a deflating equaliser against Wigan during the week.

Garry Monk takes his side to Molineux to face Water Zenga’s Wolves who are winless in their last four Championship matches.

Leeds did the double over Wolves in both league meetings last season. The opposite happened in 2014/2015, when Wolves took two wins from two over Leeds.

Both sides will be looking to improve on their current league positions. Wolverhampton Wanderers sit in 16th, with their opponents from Yorkshire two places above them.

Walter Zenga will be hoping his side can improve on their recent form, as the talent in their squad supersedes their league position.

Wolves will be hoping that winger Helder Costa, who arrived from Portuguese outfit Benfica on loan in the summer, can improve on his two league goals this season.

Costa is the Midlands club’s joint top scorer. Forward Joe Mason also sits on two league goals for the side, along with Joao Teixeira, Jon Bodvarsson and Prince Oniangué.

Leeds have Chris Wood who has already notched up six goals this season. These goals account for almost half of the 13 goals the club has netted this season.

Monk will be hopeful that other players in his squad will stand up and be counted when they kick off at Molineux at 3pm on Saturday.

Monk told club officials that his players “have tried to improve their offensive work… but it takes time.”

United will go into the fixture without Captain Liam Bridcutt and Stuart Dallas, Monk said: “Stuart won’t be involved this weekend but we’re hoping he could be back for the Burton game next week… Liam is progressing well, he’s not going to be ready before the next international break.”
