Leeds Residents “Disappointed” About Litter On The City’s Most Polluted Street

The public believe a Leeds street, dubbed one of the most polluted streets in the UK, also has a problem with litter.

A recent fieldwork study determined that Briggate in Leeds city centre has exceeded the World Health Organisation’s maximum recommended levels of air pollution of 5 micrograms of pollutant in 1 cubic metre.

Briggate contains 5.3 micrograms, which is over double that of the least polluted street surveyed but also less than half of the most polluted street.

But Leeds residents have noticed that Briggate, home to many retailers and fast-food chains, also has issues with a more tangible pollutant…..litter.

Leeds shoppers give their views on the most polluted street in Leeds.

One woman said: “It’s very disappointing to see it like this, it used to be beautiful but now they’ve torn the heart out of it”.

Another said: “Everyone just dumps their stuff everywhere”.
