The weather in Leeds should stay warm and dry all day today – which bodes well for the rest of the summer.
According to legend, the weather on St Swithun’s Day (July 15) will continue for forty days.
Swithun was an Anglo-Saxon bishop of Winchester. He’s most famous for his reputation for posthumous miracle-working.
The Swithun’s proverb says:
St Swithun’s day if thou dost rain
For forty days it will remain
St Swithun’s day if thou be fair
For forty days ’twill rain nae mare
So, with a balmy outlook and temperatures in Leeds of over twenty degrees, here’s to another forty days of summer.
Cheers!
