Delight for Ilkley gymnasts as British Titles come to Yorkshire

Ilkley Gym Club have came away from the British NDP Acrobatic Finals at Fenton Manor in Stoke-on-Trent with 4 British Champions.

11 gymnasts from Ilkley Gym Club represented Yorkshire in the annual competition over the weekend of 14/15th May. The event holds the best partnerships from British Gymnastics with 12 UK regions participating.

The reigning grade 3 Men’s pair British Champions where Matthew and Alex. The pair progressed to grade 4 in January and have worked incredibly hard to acquire the higher level skills. They set out a fantastic display and scored 26.15 which resulted in them being crowned as British Champions once more.

In the grade 4 mixed pair category, Evan and Heidi where the competitors in what was an extremely tough group with standards being very high. In great scenes the pair broke a personal best of 26.4 which awarded them with gold medal. Yorkshire was once again the finest and two pairs were now supreme.

Grade 5 Women’s pair Bella and Ella were awarded first place after a magnificent balance routine. Two routines take place with the scores from both combined. The girls finished in 6th place, a great achievement to further add to Yorkshire’s success.

The IDP (International Development Pathway) Women’s group where being represented by Melissa, Amelia and Isla. The trio put in two high-quality routines where on both occasions they finished in 4th place. Claiming 4th spot at a top-level is remarkable. 

Harris and Josh advanced to grade 2 in January after a small number of competitions. The routine on display was impressive and they secured 5th place.

Head coach was immensely proud of the gymnasts and said,                                   “Their hours of hard work, dedication and commitment were evident whilst competing against the best in the country.”                                                               She further added “To have 4 British Champions from Ilkley is incredible.”
