Manchester United have announced that full-back Luke Shaw has signed a new contract until 2023.
The club confirmed the new deal today, which will reportedly see the 23-year-old’s earnings rise from £100,000 to £150,000 a week.
Shaw suffered a set-back in 2016 when he broke his leg in a Champions League game against PSV.
Following his recovering, he was criticised by fans and United manager Jose Mourinho for being overweight and out of form.
However, Shaw has solidified his place as a regular left-back this season and United fans have praised his remarkable turnaround.
Fans have taken to Twitter to praise the new contract:
Luke Shaw’s new contract is the best come back since Jesus created Easter.

And Luke Shaw has signed a new #mufc contract. Told me in the summer: ‘Whatever happens in the next couple of months, I want to earn a contract and I want a contract because I deserve a contract.’ He’s earned it.

Luke Shaw the player people were calling overweight during pre-season. Saying he should’ve been sold. A couple months on, he’s now signed a new 5-year contract. Hard work rewards good things. #mufc

However, other United fans were not as happy with the deal:
Luke Shaw on nearly 200k a week! That’s what happens with shit management. We start playing him in his final year of his contract and quite rightly he makes us pay to keep him

And rival fans were less-than-kind to the full-back:

Luke Shaw has signed a new 5 yr contract at
Man Utd worth £195,000 a week.
This decision by the board is one of the main reasons Man Utd will not win The Premier Title for at least another 5 yrs.
Luke Shaw is shite
