Takeover trouble could lead to more Morecambe misery

By William Maxwell

Doncaster will look to retain their seven point lead at the top of the table with a victory over financially troubled Morecambe.

The table toppers have won their last five games in the league, scoring three times in four of those matches, with in form strike John Marquis notching six goals in their impressive streak.

Veteran winger James Coppinger and club captain Andy Butler both penned new 1-year contract extensions during the January transfer window and both are likely to feature, having been stalwarts for the sides so far this campaign.

Morecambe are in the midst of a club takeover debacle, with a court order by controlling stakeholder Diego Lemos delaying the proposed sale of the club.

Players and staff went without pay for the second time this season due to the delay in the proceedings.

Therefore, boss Jim Bentley will hope problems off the field will not affect the performance on it.

The Shrimpers have only played 25 games so far this season, three less than their opponents, and lay only four points above the dropzone.

Although unbeaten in their last three games, the Lancashire based outfit were humiliated 5-1 at home to Doncaster in the reverse fixture.

A win for the away side could bring them to within a point of their closest rivals Crawley, with another two games in hand on 15th placed Yeovil.

Victories in all of their games in hand could send Morecambe into the top half of the table.
