A masked man armed with a knife threatened members of staff in a Leeds travel agents and escaped with a substantial amount of cash.
He walked into Thomsons travel agents, in Town Street, Horsforth, shortly after 9am on March 11 before threatening two female members of staff and demanding they open the safe.
The man, who had his face covered and was wearing dark clothing, escaped with cash in various currencies.
Janet Truran, 60, was shopping in Horsforth at the time of the incident, she said: “It must have been just after 9am. I was in Horsforth doing a bit of shopping and looking in a few of the charity shops.
“A woman came out of Thomsons looking really flustered, then somebody else came out and pointed down the road saying ‘he’s gone that way’.
“I thought no more about it and carried on down the road.
“But then I saw a police car come down the street and park outside Thomsons and it dawned on me that something serious must have happened.”
Detective Inspector Andy Welbourn, of Leeds District CID, said: “No-one was injured in the incident but the staff members were left very shakedn by what happened. We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously.”
Anyone with any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact PC 5754 Kelda Rogerson at Weetwood police station via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
