Bridgerton – what is it and where did it come from?

Bridgerton, the record-breaking regency romance, first aired in December 2020. A historical romance created by Chris Van Dusen, when eight close siblings go searching for love and happiness in Londons high society. 

Since then, the world has been infatuated by the Bridgerton family. 

With staggering views of 313,100,000 overall , Bridgerton has made history by becoming ‘most in-demand drama tv show’ according to the Guinness World Records. With a global demand rating at 33.9 times greater than that of the average TV show.

Bridgerton currently airs 3 seasons and one spin off show- Queen Charlotte. With season 1 placing fourth on Netflix Most Popular English TV list.

With a 77% primarily female audience, Bridgerton is adapted from Julia Quinn’s novels, which have followed the same order as the television series. Original hardcovers of the series were on sale with prices as high as $800. 

As of 2023, a total of 18 official books have been released within the Bridgerton franchise, the latest being Queen Charlotte.

Fan accounts flood X,Instagram and Reddit throughout the years, showing love for the show. Creating video edits and sharing their favourite scenes on forums. 

Reddit includes many communities dedicated to the regency drama, featuring “PolinBridgerton” and “Bridgerton”.

Bridgerton continues to gain popularity, season 4 is currently in the works and will arrive in 2026.
